Recruitment of Foreign Nurses – A Strategy for Easing the Nursing Workforce Shortage August 19, 2002 Where: Connecticut Hospital AssociationRecruiting nurses from foreign countries to work in the United States can be a complex, confusing and time consuming process. Yet, it remains a viable strategy for easing the nursing workforce shortage. This program provided a comprehensive update of procedures and legal considerations in recruiting foreign nurses. The international nursing shortage was highlighted and ethical issues discussed. Alternative non-immigrant and immigrant visa options of hiring foreign nurses, creative human resources strategies and retention issues was reviewed. Services provided by immigration consultants and criteria for selecting consultants was outlined. Special considerations in obtaining Connecticut licensure was discussed.
