Changing Faces in Healthcare: Hiring the Foreign Worker February 16, 2007 Where: Central Vermont Medical Center, Berlin, VTThe current labor shortage in healthcare has put a renewed focus on the potential recruitment of foreign healthcare professionals, as a viable, cost-effective alternative.
Attorney Wilson presented in front of Human Resources Directors of Vermont hospitals and medical centers. His seminar explained the procedures and legal considerations in recruiting foreign Registered Nurses, Allied Health Professionals and Physicians.
He discussed both immigrant and non-immigrant visa options, addressed recruitment and retention issues as well as ethical considerations when employing a foreign healthcare professional. Mr. Wilson also discussed the recent changes by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Department of Homeland Security, and how these changes affect today’s healthcare facilities.
He talked about employment authorization verification issues, the recent proposed changes in the I-9 compliance process, Social Security Mismatch letters, the basic pilot program, and highlighted the core of the immigration debate in Congress.
Following the presentation, Mr. Wilson was available to answer individual questions.
