International Students: A Legal Update

Student visas have been subject to major statutory revisions under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act and other changes during the past two years, including the implementation of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) computerized reporting regulations, which were published in December 2002 and went into effect on January 1, 2003.

In his presentation, Attorney Wilson explanied the new federal rules and regulations regarding the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and SEVIS. He also spoke about the non-immigrant and immigrant visa options for foreign students, including F, J, M and LPR.
