Extreme Makeover: Immigration Law Edition - Human Resources Association-Greater Concord

February 15, 2007
Where: The Red Blazer, Concord, NH

Immigration Reform will result in additional obligations and regulations for all employers, with the responsibility of implementing these changes given to the employers themselves, particularly the HR department. Although debate in the Congress is on-going, it is clear that changes will be made and that employer sanctions will be increased and enforced.

Attorney Wilson’s seminar explained the procedures and legal considerations for companies who employ foreign workers. He discussed employment authorization verification issues, the recent proposed changes in the I-9 compliance process, Social Security no-match letters, the basic pilot program, and highlighted the core of the immigration debate in Congress.  Mr. Wilson also discussed the various professional employment based visas available to international employees, both non-immigrant (H1-B, E, L, TN) and immigrant visa (Green card) options. Additionally, he addressed the recent changes (PERM Regulations) implemented by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of Homeland Security, and clarified how these changes affect today’s corporations.
